In today’s visual design culture, where attention often favors speed and spectacle, designer Chenxin Luo stands out with a more intricate voice. Her work doesn’t shout, it whispers, gently drawing viewers into carefully constructed interiors of memory and meaning.  Her award-winning Dollhouse Dreams, a haunting and poetic illustration series,  has captured the attention of juries worldwide.

Dollhouse Dreams has won numerous awards from some of the world’s most respected creative institutions, including the Communication Arts Illustration Annual, iJungle Illustration Awards, American Illustration and American Photography 44 Annual, Posterstellars International Poster Competition, and ICVA International Creative Visual Awards. This series has positioned Chenxin Luo as one of the most promising new voices in contemporary illustration.

At first glance, Dollhouse Dreams looks a bit like a tiny interior design project. You can see a cross-section of different rooms, carefully arranged with soft textures and warm, cozy lighting. Delicate and whimsical, Dollhouse Dreams captures the imaginative worlds of twins through a series of richly detailed illustrations, each set inside a pastel-toned dollhouse full of hidden stories. Each artwork showcases enchanting scenarios unfolding within its colorful dollhouse, a space filled with delightful details and secrets. It also invites viewers to reminisce about their own childhood fantasies.

This project is co-created with her twin sister. Together, they form GuessWho Studio, a dynamic twin-led creative venture based in New York City. Their artistic journey is deeply rooted in their shared experiences as twins, allowing them to explore themes of identity, connection, and the complexities of human relationships through their creative practice. With a focus on capturing the nuances of interpersonal dynamics, their illustrations often depict the delicate balance between closeness and independence, reflecting both their personal bond and a broader exploration of human connection. At the heart of Guess Who Studio’s work is a passion for storytelling and a desire to connect with audiences on a deeper level. “It’s not just a surface concept; it’s built into how we think, work, and create together.”Luo explains, “I’m also open to developing more personal work on my own, but the creative partnership we’ve built has a strong foundation, and it’s something I want to keep growing.”

Beyond Dollhouse Dreams, Luo’s broader design philosophy is to become an artist “who creates work that feels warm, honest, and emotionally connected.” She draws inspiration from small joys, subtle relationships, and things that might seem ordinary. “That’s the kind of feeling I want to bring into my work.”

One of the biggest projects she’s working on now is an upcoming exhibition in August, centered around Twin Size, a book and character-based project they created at GuessWho Studio. The show will focus on illustrated twin characters that reflect Chenxin Luo and her sister Chenyi’s personal bond and shared experiences. “We’re designing the space to feel like a bedroom: a soft, intimate environment that reflects the emotional core of the work. It’s a project that means a lot to both of us, and we’re excited to keep building that world together.”
